2021 - THE YEAR WE AIM TO INAUGURATE THE MAKHUA BIBLE!!

Dear friends

Greetings in our Lord Jesus Christ. Since my January update, things were really hectic. Here are few highlights as well as a few things on the menu for the next few months Lord willing.

* For months on end now Domingos and I have been working tirelessly on our “final read”. Last week marked a huge milestone when we completed this final read of the Old Testament.

* Last week also marked something special as we made the first payment to Amity (printers in China) for the printing to be done there. Two weeks ago, when I spoke to the guys helping with the typesetting and liaising with the printers, we learned that the price of the special paper is going up on the 1st of March for the 6th or 7th time in 11 months.

* As we discussed this, we realized that we could get an invoice from them before then and also pay them before the 1st of March. This would help in two ways: we avoid yet another price hike, and the Rand was relatively strong against the dollar. Since our money lies in our account in Rand and we have to pay in dollars, in terms of when we make payments, we prefer a “weaker dollar”. However, when we receive support from the US, we obviously prefer a stronger dollar.

* This led to a mad scramble last week to jump through all the hoops for our bank and the Reserve Bank to get permission to make such a huge payment of close to 40 000 dollars to a foreign country. By God’s grace we managed that, although it takes 2-4 days for it to display in Amity’s account. In this way, we got a cheaper quote and a relatively favorable exchange rate.

* For those of you who have questions about why China and where this is done: do yourself a favor and google “Amity Bible Printers”. They are one of the largest Bible printers in the world. My friend in Cape Town deals with them all the time. According to him they are also the best in terms of quality.

* In March I will run the final text through a series of “filters” and as you know by now, Domingos and Bernardo will head South to Xai-Xai to finish the sound recordings of the Makhua New Testament. As far as what must happen in April/May, I will talk more about this in the next update.

IN CLOSING, as I have mentioned in the January update, we do not have any new “Project” goals this year.
However, we still need to reach the end of this year financially (in terms of operational expenses). Our estimate of what we would be needing from outside South Africa for this period is approximately 21 000 dollars over the next 10 – 11 months.

For this reason, we respectfully ask you to please consider to continue to support this project financially as well.
